Tony de Carlo:
Personal Icons
Tony de Carlo is a native of Los
Angeles now living in Savannah, Georgia. The son of an artist mother, he has been creating ever since childhood.
A self-taught artist, he paints on a daily basis using silver, copper and
gold-leaf, acrylics and oils; on everything from canvas, metal and tin, to cut-out wood figures and furniture. His work is exhibited regularly throughout the
United States and shown extensively in many diverse venues in his home state of
California. His works have been exhibited in dozens of museums and galleries,
and are in collections throughout the world - many are sold
even before the paint is dry!
These beautiful portraits and other images blend elements of sexuality, religion and
spirituality, and nature, with Southern Californian, Southwestern US, Mexican ,and Mexican-American ethnic and artistic
sensibilities, and visual reference to the icon in art. Tony regularly inserts
things from his own life in his paintings - his dogs, furniture, house, gardens,
landscapes, friends,
neighborhood, his city, and even his vacations. Tony's extraordinary
talent combines these influences and elements, and a brilliant use of colors, to produce his
unique vision.
