durchholz: a new dimension
Eric
Durchholz is a uniquely talented artist working in Tennessee. He became obsessed
with 3D (three dimensional) photography after rescuing a pair of 3D glasses from
the back of a cereal box destined for the trash. He searched the internet to
find photos of men in 3D and was shocked when his searches yielded nothing. He
immediately began to learn the technique of stereo photography. His eye-popping
exhibits have drawn crowds and garnered lots of local and national press.
MANNEQUINS
"As
if you couldn't tell by my subject matter, I think guys are beautiful. And when
a viewer dons a pair of 3D glasses, they are seeing the way I see the world.
They get a pair of my eyes. I only take pictures in 3D and even though I've had
many requests for 2D work, I am not that interested in it at this time. I like
the challenge and the artistry behind it. If someone thinks it's a gimmick, then
the gimmick is the work itself. There is nothing devious or contrived about it.
I simply create what I want to see and if other people like it, then that's a
great benefit."
