Pierre-Yves
MONNERVILLE Photographer
Pierre-Yves Monnerville was born in Paris; his parents were from Martinique, in
the French Caribbean. He's lived in Martinique, Paris, Berlin, and now London.
He discovered photography through a few books that belonged to his father that
he found when he was about 13 and he started to think of pictures that would
illustrate his life as an adolescent boy. "The following year, I came
across The Black Book by photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. I had never
been so shocked and turned on at the same time. I decided that I would become a
photographer." Pierre exhibited in Paris and Berlin in 2006. Besides male
nudes, he also shoots portraiture and fashion, and he is working on a series of
pictures about the urban gay lifestyle.
