Cor Windouwer: Portraits Plus

Cor Windhouwer is a Dutch artist who explores a variety of mediums and materials. His work here expresses his diverse and personal views of portraiture. Cor has his own thoughts on the series - "COMPFRONTATIONS is what I like to call my work because by looking at my COMPositions, there is a conFRONTATION between the viewer's feeling and my work. In the past few years I have come to develop and explore a few figurative series, like the beau-mecs…(big hunks) [or hot guys]. Most of my ideas I get from looking at nature, surfing the Internet, reading magazines and books. I try to express the feeling I get from all those things using colors."

 "I like to use pictures from landscapes, cows, and of course men I see in magazines and on the Internet as ideas to paint or sculpt - I started painting pictures from men who photograph themselves in a mirror... I noticed that many men on profile sites do that. I found it very interesting to see the way they would like us to see them. By making my paintings I show them how I look at them and see them as pieces of art painted by me.. so their thoughts and mine come together in paint and color...and Art..."
