Jeremy Lane: Art is Emotion "I came out when I was fifteen" states new New York City artist Jeremy Lane who was brought up in Virginia and North Carolina. [Despite that] he had few problems as a gay teen coming out to his family. "My mother basically shrugged and said 'what can I say?' I was quite proud of her, considering the fact that her side of the family is like a more uptight version of Steel Magnolias. My father never saw it as a big deal. I know I am very fortunate to have a family that supports me. They always encouraged me to pursue my talent."
Jeremy is a self-taught artist who did not see the necessity of attending art school. "You cannot teach someone to feel. Art is a physical manifestation of an impalpable part of your self. Art is emotion. I don't think that anyone's art is better or worse than another's. To say that would be to say that one person's emotions are more important than another's. Almost everything I create has a story and my art contains a lot of personal symbolism. I try not to be influenced by anyone but I really love Frida Kahlo, Gustav Klimt, Clive Barker, and J. W. Waterhouse." This was the first time Jeremy's works were exhibited. Gay Art Gallery is proud to showcase the imaginative work of this talented artist. His works can be either serious or amusing, but always thoughtful. note: some of these
