LORRAINE
INZALACO
'Women Loving'
"As
a lesbian and an artist, I have been recording the wonderful gifts of my life as
far back as I can recall. Making art as a celebration of my love for women and
my being loved by women is natural for me. I consider my subject matter of women
loving women not only a simple and direct telling of my own life story, but an
attempt to begin filling the void of Lesbian imagery in the world of art."
Lorraine Inzalaco lives and creates her art in Tucson, Arizona. She has
exhibited her work throughout the U.S. and has achieved many honors throughout
her career. Her work has been published extensively. In her paintings, Lorraine
celebrates women, their sexuality and grace and beauty, as well as Lesbian love.
Through wonderful color and brushwork, she achieves an elegance and naturalness
of portrayal.
"By bringing these images of Lesbian love out in the open, a conversation
begins, both in society and in the art world. I believe it is essential for
everyone, not only Lesbians, to see beautiful images of women loving each other
through a Lesbian's eyes. It is this way that we see ourselves as members of the
world beyond our own enclaves, and that others appreciate our beauty and
dignity. And surely since the beginning of time, dykes have been making art,
poetry, and music - it can't be that the leap is from Sappho to you and me. I
think we need to see Lesbian artists from throughout history. I can think of no
better way to grow as a collectivity than to reproduce our art and have it
shown, so that other Lesbians can relate and elate."
