Keith Barrell: Evolving Art Keith Barrell is a multi-talented English artist, living in Kent. His formal art training was followed by many years in art education. Gay Art Gallery is happy to present a selection of his exquisite paintings of the male nude. In his evolving creativity, Keith has expanded his vision to include more use of color, texture, and materials in his depictions of the male figure. "I have always produced my own creative
work in conjunction with my teaching roles over my career in art and
design education. My work has included drawings, printmaking, ceramic sculpture and pottery. More
recently since devoting all my energy to creating art, I am now in the process of developing my own skills
as a painter, using watercolour, acrylic, and mixed media. My painting activity, which
utilises the male nude as its main starting point, derives from my long-term interest in classical
sculpture going back to Greek and Roman civilisations. But as a trained sculptor
I am often stylising the form so that organic influences create
surfaces and structures of the torso."
