Dennis Dean: Within Reach :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Within Reach, a new book by Dennis Dean, is a sumptuous visual documentation and interpretation of the game of polo. Played throughout the centuries, and now around the world, polo is an intensely physical game, where man and horse need to act as one being. This implies a bond between man and horse that transcends the more obvious relationship between mount and rider. The photographs in this book show those bonds on an intimate level. The boisterous camaraderie of teammates contrasts with the private moments of preparation and contemplation. And on that level, the nude figure is a natural one, in the context of the player's oneness with their horses, the relief of playfulness, and an athleticism that translates to casual sensuality.
This beautifully produced book was self-published by the artist. It is paperbound, with 144 pages of 158 black and white photos. It was designed by South Florida native Randy Detrick, currently an independent art director and creative director. The introduction was written by David G. Taylor, an internationally known author, editor, and correspondent. Your copy of the book is signed by the photographer. Not all of the photos in the gallery appear the same in the book, but most do, and some may appear cropped or in variant poses. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
